Warhammer Storm Ground is a turn-based strategy game. It has three different factions: Stormcast Eternals, Nighthaunt, and Maggotkin. Each faction has its own hero units and unique characteristics. For example, the Stormcast Eternals are equipped with sturdy armor, which makes them difficult to kill, while the Maggotkit faction of monsters can change the landscape of a map. On a hexagonal map, players can cast spells and perform various ranged and melee attacks with their units. As the player progresses, they can unlock new weapons, armor, and spells for their units and heroes. Unlocks can also appear in a hex as items stored in loot containers. In addition to a campaign mode, incorporating elements commonly found in roguelike games, the game also features competitive online multiplayer modes.

There are three campaigns, one for each faction, you can only have one campaign active at a time. Campaigns have scenarios, each scenario has its own objective, such as killing a specific target or killing a certain number of enemies. Typically, you will have more than one scenario option at a time, each with different objectives, difficulties, and rewards.
