You wake up and find out you’re hungry. No, he’s not hungry, he’s greedy. For human blood. Your character may be confused, but you already know what happened. From now on, you play as a vampire and you will have to find a way to survive in this new but the same world. This tension, which began in the prologue, is present throughout the game, which lasts about seven hours if you are a slightly slower reader. While some vampires try to mingle with humans, this guy prefers a slightly more aggressive approach. Not only does the plot manage to stay captivating all the time, but the new, compelling characters and the sudden upheavals make the game addictive from start to finish. Even if you want to find the vampire that transformed you, the story shifts its focus to other characters and its world soon. However, this sudden change of pace works quite well. Thus, the game manages to introduce you to his world, to explain exactly who those vampires are, their clans, and their relationships. And it does it in a nutshell, without overwhelming you with tons of information.

Meeting new characters and doing tasks for them was definitely my favorite part of this title. Each of them is unique, with its own motifs and a fascinating background to discover. I adored Hope because her masterful attitude clicked on Amanda’s, creating a great duo. He is not afraid to use the new technologies we are enslaved to, namely telephones and social networks. Do not assist them with the goodness of your heart because you are waiting for their help in return. What I really liked is that the game forces you into awkward situations. Being a vampire changes the way you live and with whom and how you will interact. Sure, it’s not your fault that you became a vampire, but the feeling of hurting other ignorant people stayed with me, and your character gets used to it too. You have to survive somehow, though. The fact that you can’t finish every side quest, so you have to decide what’s right for you, just adds to that feeling. The journey through the city with various passengers will often happen. Some of them may be talkative, while others may prefer silence. Feeding on the blood of others is the only thing you need to keep in mind while reading.

Over time, there is an option to feed yourself, that is, to drink blood from a poor person. You can choose not to, but it comes with a price. Starving for longer will block some of the dialog options because you will be too weak to run them. I really like that because you’re tempted to hunt foreigners. If you do not celebrate with someone for a longer period of time, your character may become desperate, immediately wanting human blood, and thus kill someone impatiently on their own. This brings us to the Masquerade, which is not just an elegant word, but one of the most important rules for vampires. You have to be discreet and try to stay hidden. However, even with the desperate crime mentioned above, I never lost the game or had to reload at a checkpoint.

So I slowly realized that your choices didn’t matter. Sure, the way you play affects your path to your goal, but the ending always has the same result, even if you try to go against the game. I decided to finish Coteries of New York with the other characters, and although there were a few different dialogues, it always ends the same way. Now, it’s not annoying and I don’t feel like it would ruin my whole time with it, but it still leaves a bittersweet taste in my mouth.
