Of course, you shouldn’t be shocked at this point, because most of the internet will agree with me on this. The distribution of the characters is so diverse and unique, each with features that make them enjoyable or that you would love to kill in a genocide race. For example, you have Sans, my favorite in the group. He is a relaxed, prankster and light skeleton who has a brother named Papyrus. What Papyrus lacks in intelligence, he compensates with a big heart for people. You also have Flowey, who will immediately shudder at you for being ruthless. As for the plot itself, it’s a great emotional rollercoaster that you’d like to ride again and again and again. It has its hilarious moments because the writing is surprisingly well done, while it also has its sad moments.

However, what’s difficult about all of this is that it literally makes you rethink everything you knew about video games. The fourth wall is also often broken, and this is done in the smartest and most creative ways. It’s like Kid Icarus: Uprising, except Undertale does it much better. I almost forgot, but every action in this game will be remembered by the characters, long after you defeat it. People have called this game “sensitive being” and can actually agree with them. Believe me, Undertale is perfect for storytelling and I won’t be shocked if you cry a little. It’s hard not to, and with such a unique cast of adorable characters, it justifies my point even more. Undertale is very similar to Earthbound in many ways, the most notable feature being the tower fight and the way it is portrayed. Nowadays, a LOT of games have opportunities in which you can spare or kill a certain character and decide his fate. Their flaw, however, is that this death is often ignored, both in the game world and in real life.

Undertale takes this concept and takes it one step further, leaving the fate of each character in your hands. You can run away peacefully and not kill anyone, and this is the one I would highly recommend if you decide to buy this masterpiece. There’s also the neutral ending, which is the most common in the group, but it has one of the most creative final bosses I’ve ever seen in video games. I won’t spoil much, but it will blow your mind, you can trust me for that. There is also the genocide race, which is incredibly difficult to accomplish because of how emotionally difficult it is to truly kill this adorable cast of monsters. The fight itself is like Earthbound’s, as I said earlier. That being said, Undertale takes it one step further, adding the hell of bullets and platforms to the mix and blending them together perfectly, making the game much more interesting while keeping the original RPG elements.

The graphics are a simple 8-bit style, and although it is considered “generic” because of the whole “8-bit indie game created by one guy,” this game uses it properly. I know, it sounds weird, but it’s true. If you play the game and go on a certain route, the final boss will amaze your mind with the images. There’s not much to say here, it’s not what should make this game so noteworthy, but it’s still acceptable.
