I won’t say anything more because I don’t want to spoil the story, but there is a lot going on in the narrative and I enjoyed the main campaign of this game. Unfortunately, everything else was either mediocre or lackluster. The biggest problem was performance issues. On my RTX 3080, I often dropped frame rates below a constant 60 fps at the highest graphics settings (on my 2560 x 1440 monitor), often dropping to variable frame rates of 15 fps during combat. The variable frame rate affected the gameplay as it made combat more intense than it had to be. The combat is already not good in this game, despite the optimization issues.

You seem to always run out of ammo if you choose to often try to shoot enemies instead of running away. The combat is slow, steady, and repetitive. It seems that if you are too quick on the trigger your shots miss. There are definitely hit detection issues with multiple enemies on screen. If that wasn’t bad enough, there are several underwater sequences that are repetitive due to unresponsive controls and bad camera angles and are just hard to navigate. The sidequests are boring. They have almost no story. They consist of repetitive actions that are rarely rewarded because bullets are scarce and doing these moments often results in you having fewer bullets at the end than you did at the beginning. Trying not to draw is sometimes appropriate, but often it makes searching much more difficult, especially if you’re low on materials to make health packs.

Finally, there is very little content in this game, especially if you are trying to 100% it. However, the game is much better if you forget all the fillers and just focus on the main campaign. In fact, the game would have been much better with some cut content as the game starts to feel weak towards the end as the main gameplay loop is the game’s weakness. However, the game is held up by good narration. There are many secrets here that are interesting to discover. Especially if you like Lovecraftian mythos,
