Unlike other LEGO games which are usually action-adventure or sandbox games, Builder’s Journey is more of a minimalist puzzle game. It is divided into a series of levels that take the form of different types of dioramas, where only a few elements can be interacted with. You would think it might limit creative freedom, but puzzles can be quite clever. You might just build a bridge and take your character to the other side, but ultimately you get machines to work with, a skateboard, and even a robot companion that introduces a whole new way of arranging parts. For the duration of the game, it does a good job of introducing new things to keep the experience engaging without overdoing its difficulty.

This was obviously designed for mobile devices and the mouse controls take a bit of getting used to. For example, to place a part, left-click to lift it, click while it floats to rotate it, and then hold the left button to place it. I have the impression that it would have been better to rotate with the mouse wheel or certain keys and get rid of the HOLD to place it. The game took me an hour and a half at 100%. It’s about 50% longer than the original version on Apple Arcade, with a ton of new levels and mechanics introduced in this version. While this length is relatively normal for games in the “minimal puzzle” genre, I can still see that this number puts people off, so it’s something to keep in mind. It would be better to think of Builder’s Journey as a half-game, half-tech demo. Ray Tracing, DLSS, 4K support, volumetric lighting, global lighting – it’s all there and you can easily make your PC crawl if it’s not equipped for it.

Although Builders Journey has a short visit, the experience you get is fantastic and will be remembered forever. With beautiful visuals and a gorgeous soundtrack to go with it, you get the best Lego game ever made, and not only that, but I’d say it’s one of the best puzzle games too. It encompasses lego creativity in problem-solving, unlike any other game I’ve ever played. There are several ways to fill a gap or make a mechanic work, which is really different from a lot of other games, which usually only have a pre-planned way to fix an issue.
