The lead scientist of the project, Kevin Clamely, used his dead son to create a clone and soon began various illegal cloning and human experimentation. Now Horzine sees no way out of the mess they made but only to hire local mercenaries to secure hot zones and exterminate these screeching and slobbering creatures.

Players are teamed up in 6 for fighting through waves against Zeds. Back to back while healing each other as waves pass, different types of Zeds are introduced, culminating with a boss fight as the final wave. Killing Zeds, healing teammates, and surviving each wave grant you XP to level up and money to buy equipment, weapons, and upgrades at trader pods around the map. Tripwire is actively updating the game with seasonal content along with officially bringing in community-made stuff. KF2 is primarily played in survival mode. While other modes like VS. survival, endless, and objective do exist, the lack of players and low engagement rate of the content is what scares players away. The basic strategy is uncomplicated: stay grouped, conserve ammo, spend money wisely, have a good healer, and know when to run away.

Along with skill, combat efficiency also demands thoughtful resource management. If you have the foresight and capabilities to see the bigger picture by spending your money on the combination of the right guns at the right time, you’re rewarded with an easier path through large Zeds to the boss. You can easily cross some perks out of your list, though, each one is valuable in viable hands. In terms of specificity, some of them stand out among the others. Berserker, for instance, combines great mobility with the ability to dispatch Zeds at point-blank range or Medics that might not be potent damage dealers but certainly, the survival of your team is in their hands.

Gunplay might not be extraordinary but the pure carnage the guns spit out is amazing. The recoil pattern is the same for all guns and in a straight vertical line that might feel wacky and needs some getting used to. However, an enormous range of weaponry is offered to make up for any other shortcomings. I can certainly say there are a dozen weapons in each category, if not more. From real-life military-grade firearms to experimental makeshift guns that make lethal shots out of battery charges and various melees to make it personal. Kevin went out of his way to make a considerable diversity in Zed types.

Even the most insignificant ones are to be treated differently and cautiously since they can grab and hold onto you until their bigger friends arrive. Sirens’ screams are deadly and damage you even through armor. Bloats have projectile vomits that blur your vision long enough to cause you trouble. Husks are equipped with fire cannons and on the verge of defeat, they go suicidal on your team. Lastly, Fleshpounds and Scrakes are the ones you don’t want to mess with when unprepared.
