A great port for a great game. As a spin-off of the Yakuza series, it obviously is cut from the same cloth in a lot of ways but the game definitely stands out as something more than just a spin-off, especially with its detective slant. If it wasn’t for the somewhat slow start before the main plot really kicks off and for the tedious and unreasonably abundant tailing missions, it would be up for consideration as the best in the series. The story is fantastic, the characters are very interesting, has some beautiful visuals at times, a RIDICULOUSLY good soundtrack, fantastic voice work, and a surprisingly solid English dub for the first time since the series’ recent popularity boom, combat becomes hilarious fun, and its packed full with tons of fun side content.

It’s easy to get hooked on the main story once it starts to really kick off early on. But it’s also just as easy to get hooked into ignoring the main story so you can go play darts with your weeaboo ninja friend Ryan Acosta, or go through the drone racing grand Prix, or solve side cases about a pervert named Ass Catchem.
