It is a fantastic roguelike that offers great fighting, significant progression, and a variety of detailed atmospheric environments, which will make each run feel different from the previous one. It also manages to stand out from the rest with unique mechanics that will keep you standing. For me, this is something fundamental for a pleasant rogue-lite that will make me come back. Curse of the Dead Gods has a phenomenal fight that tests your patience and accuracy, similar to those in the Souls series. Do this by forcing you to manage resistance during combat, as indicated by 5 points below your character. Each dodge throw, the final swing of your main weapon, or swing of a heavy weapon will consume one of these points.

As you would expect, running out of resistance will leave you completely vulnerable to the attacks of your enemies. You can also regain your strength by killing enemies, operating attacks, or letting them recharge over time. Enemies will attack with telegraphic strikes with clear audio and visual signals. Sometimes enemies will end before a strong blow or a purple circle appears under your feet, signaling you to avoid a ranged attack. These intuitive cues give the fight a natural flow that feels really great. In general, the fight feels so close and receptive. It’s probably my favorite fighting system I’ve encountered so far in a roguelike. Speaking of enemies, I found that there was a wide variety of enemies that made me adapt to every encounter. This was almost the same for the meetings with the bosses, who presented unique challenges and really tested my skills. I don’t want to ruin these meetings, but I will say that I was very pleased with them.

Racing of the Dead Gods offers an amazing variety of weapons, each with unique mechanics that make them feel unique. For example, you could use a spear that deals critical damage only if you attack enemies with the tip of a blade or a pistol that causes additional damage if you time perfectly. There are also swords, shields, daggers, bows, hammers, whips, and much more that you will find while running. Each type of weapon also has a unique “charge attack” performed by loading a weapon attack. A sword loading attack will make you make a circular cut damaging all the enemies around you, while the hammers will make you jump in the air, landing with massive damage in the area. You can even use your secondary weapons in special “off-hand combos”, in which you end a primary attack combo with a special shot from your secondary weapon. For example, you can end your sword combo with a shotgun blast from your pistol.

Needless to say, there is a lot of depth in each weapon class. The game also includes objects known as relics. If you played Hades, they are similar to the benefits you will receive from the various gods. Each relic will give you a special attribute. These range from additional healing forms to damage sufferers to lighting, fire, or poison attacks. There is a wide variety of relics and they have added a lot of variety to my runs.
