The general game plan is to melt down enemy shields with the shotgun (or another weapon when you get bored of it), then use your other tools to finish the job, and that’s the part that gets a bit more creative.

You have a sword and an Exo arm, and as you play the game, you’ll unlock more cool abilities to use with those weapons. You can launch enemies into the air and hit them with a flurry of slashes, or run around and charge up a massive rocket punch that blasts a large attack in front of you for example. This part of the game is more about doing what you think feels good, and it’s where the game succeeds most. If you’re looking for a game like Doom Eternal where each mechanic plays out like rock paper scissors with certain enemy types, forcing you to carefully optimize your tool use, you will be disappointed. This is a game where a boss teleports behind you and proudly exclaims “I’m behind you” if that is any indication of what you’re signing up for. It’s fun and there’s room for creativity, but its depth is limited.

The story is horribly paced, dialogue isn’t great, but the concept seems like it could have been interesting had it been properly fleshed out and built up. Honestly, it’s hard to follow, I couldn’t tell you what happened outside of black hole sun (which is a super cool visual mind you). But if you have any sense, you would know that the story isn’t what this game is really about. It’s all a means to move the action along, a necessary presence to drive you forward. The game looks great, in some cases in animates great, but outside of that, the production values are very low. Janky interactions, weird timing on when a weapon is actually reloaded, bad visual queues, etc.

These are the types of issues that you can expect, and this combined with the general writing quality is where the B movie comparison fits in. This, combined with the length of the game, is where that $20 price tag is coming from. You’re paying for a high-quality visual presentation being placed ahead of general game polish. If that doesn’t sit right with you, wait for a sale.
