In Astria Ascending PC Game you take control of 8 demigods. Demigods are chosen from the races of Orcanon to protect the balance and harmony of the world that is constantly threatened by “noise”. Demigods are effective, a kind of cross between fantasy superheroes and Blade Runner replicants; when they are called demigods, they also have a reduced lifespan of 3 years, after which they are lost in time, like tears in the rain. The noise? Far from being a punk ensemble from the ’80s in Nottingham, they are creatures whose sole purpose is to destroy the harmony between the Organon races. This harmonious outfit is kept partially intact as a result of the magical effects of a fruit called Harmelon and the demigod police. Each character has their own story, explored in five cities, twenty-five dungeons, and about thirty hours of play. Along with the main story mission, there are a number of side missions and mini-games.

The game is played completely in 2D. Exploring cities, dungeons, and different locations is done by the party leader’s avatar, they can interact, initiate conversations, jump, cut, and execute a ranged attack. I found this vaguely reminiscent of Atlus’s Odin Sphere both in its execution and in its art style. As is standard in JRPG contact with a monster initiates the fight. Rather than stumble upon creatures, you could also choose to use your ranged attack to amaze the creature and avoid it or cut off the attack to initiate the fight with an advantage. Once the fight is started, this is a very classic turn-based structure, with the party on one side of the screen and the enemy on the other. Only four of your party can actively engage in combat, but you can change party members in and out of your full compliment as the fight progresses.
